Shona Tate

Alison first met Shona Tate in the season of 2002 when they trained together for their BASI Level 4 technical exam, and were both delighted to pass in 2003.

Derek and Shona established BASS Chamonix in 2004 and Alison worked with them from 2005 until 2011. It was during this time that together they developed the Ski Performance for Mountaineers course. We continue to work in close partnership, with Derek and Shona regularly working on the Ski Performance for Mountaineers and Chamonix Off-Piste & Touring Skills.

Shona was brought up in a skiing family. Her parents were instructors in Scotland and her older brother was into racing. She was soon following her brother around the mountain hot on his heels in all terrain and in all typical Scottish weather!

After spending several years in the Scottish Ski Team Shona gained her first ski instructor qualification on artificial slopes. From there she gained full French Equivalence, and travelled Europe and America teaching clients of all levels. This included being a trainer for the Instructor Associations in both the UK (BASI) and Ireland (IASI). Shona is immersed all year in the Outdoor Industry being involved with trade events and promotion of outdoor participation.

Shona now lives in Saint Gervais Les Bains, just round the corner from Chamonix. She says “I love teaching all ages and levels and helping my clients experience the mountains in a safe and enjoyable way and developing individual strengths.
