Gillian has a similar background in skiing to her sister Alison, both being introduced to the sport at a very young age. Gillian was a keen ski racer having raced internationally for the British Children's Team.
Gillian continued to race for the university team whilst studying at Glasgow University. At that time she developed a passion for climbing. Ski mountaineering is the logical progression from there; an opportunity to combine the activities that you love. Since then she has completed numerous ski tours across the Alps, including a ski ascent of Mont Blanc.
Gillian is equally passionate about exploring the Scottish mountains on ski from her home in Fort William. So much so that she is a well known as a local activist in addition to her ski instruction and can often be found skiing on Ben Nevis and the surrounding hills. Gillian spends a significant part of the winter working as a Senior Forecaster with Scottish Avalanche Information Service.
Gillian heads up our Ski Performance Scotland pop up courses, offering tuition in Scotland when the conditions allow. She loves skiing by the sea with the potential for summit to sea descents, often seeking out these opportunities for both work and play in Norway.
Throughout the summer months she can be found guiding clients on the Cuillin Ridge on Skye, teaching students at Lochaber College and sea kayaking around the Scottish coastline.
